Once you have chosen one of our beautiful pots, the next thing to consider is the right pot feet.
This is something that we can advise on when you first buy your pot, but whichever feet you end up choosing should be both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
We recommend that feet are used with all our pots. They are essential for good drainage, as the excess water needs to freely exit at the base of the pot through the hole. A pot set directly on the ground will also quickly become home to a colony of insects such as woodlice and ants. If you leave a brick on the ground for a week or so then pick it up, you will get an idea of what we mean. These insects can damage the roots of plants or even block the pot’s drainage hole, so are best avoided.
When choosing feet, it is important that they do not detract from the appearance of the pot. Some feet are designed to be invisible and fit snugly under the base of the pot, while others are decorative and designed to be on show. The number and size of feet you need depends on the size of the pot, although it is not a hard and fast rule as some smaller pots can look good with big feet. Take care that feet do not protrude too far as they can be a trip hazard and mean the pot has a larger footprint than necessary.
It is well worth investing in proper pot feet rather than making do with stones or tiles. The right feet mean that the pot is safe and balanced, and its natural symmetry and beauty are preserved to help it look its best.
