We’ve been exhibiting at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for almost two decades, so the planning and preparation for the 2019 show in late Spring needs to be as meticulous and precise as ever.
When does preparation begin and what’s involved?
Preparation for Chelsea begins nine months prior to the event, in September, with an initial concept and design of the stand being conceived. The final stand design must adhere strictly to the allocated space provided at the show ground, and will need to be approved by the RHS before it is given the go ahead.
Once approved, the stand design is plotted and chalked out on the floor of a barn at Pykards Hall. A full-size, fully-featured mock-up is then created – as it will appear at Chelsea.
For 2019 the Italian Terrace stand will feature backdrop walls made from upcycled tin roofing acquired from an old, decaying pig shed. The floor will employ recycled wooden flooring salvaged from the dining room. Three new display plinths will also make an appearance in 2019 in concert with an extensive display of unique terracotta pots.
Roald Dahl roses from David Austin, Hostas and Olive trees will feature strongly in the planting plan, alongside Artemisia and Arctotis plants from the daisy family Asteraceae.
The Italian Terrace stand is transplanted in its entirety from a rural Suffolk Barn and recreated at the RHS show in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, London SW3 in readiness for hordes of visitors during the 5-day event.
