Traditional techniques are used to produce our terracotta collection. Air drying and modern kiln firing at high temperatures ensures strength and frost resistance.

Basic points for healthy pots and plants

Pots and plants must be able to breath. Allow water and moisture to drain through the hole at the base of the pot by raising the pot off the ground using terracotta feet or tiles. Click here for Etc Etc for information on feet. Before planting, use plenty of 'crock' which aids drainage and protects the hole from blocking.

If you are in a frost prone area or a climate of severe wet, frosts and rapid temperature change then we advise some protection. Wrap the top of the pots with sacking, fleece or bubble wrap, or move inside.

Urns and oil jar shapes are not recommended to be fully planted. The root system will spread into the new soil of the rotund shape and cause a problem with plant management, should you need to root prune or move the plant. In this case a pot within the pot is recommended.

For a waterproof lining we can fibre glass line each pot. Perfect for interior use or containing water.

Remember to keep your plants trimmed, top heavy plants can blow over. Or secure to a wall with a tree tie around the stem/trunk.

We are very happy to advise on planting and can recommend a number of good nurseries.
