PLANTING

Single planting has great impact, for example, Hydrangeas, Agapanthus, Abutilon, Tulips or Lilies. The red Alstromeria in the Cestino Liscio flowers all summer into autumn, and lets not forget the scented Pelargoniums, Lord Bute is a reliable favourite. For an exciting display, plant white roses in the Vaso Colonna and underplant with Violas. The Ciotola looks impressive packed full of sempivivums, or a mixture of fragrant and edible herbs.

Lavender flowers for a long time in summer and looks stunning. Box and Ilex are great all year round, and many topiarised shapes and plants are available. Some may need winter protection but are suitable candidates for pots. Olive or Bay trees, Citrus fruits, vines and figs look wonderful, giving shape and form. Take care not to plant too high making the pot top heavy.
